NATIONAL MUSEUM, BOY SCOUTS OF THE PHILIPPINES LAUNCH EXHIBITION MARKING 90 YEARS OF SCOUTING

An audience gathered in a museum hall with colorful murals on the walls, listening to a speaker. The scene is filled with chairs and people wearing uniforms.

The National Museum of the Philippines (NMP), in partnership with the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP), launched its latest exhibition, “On My Honor: The Boy Scouts of the Philippines Collection,” on October 31, 2026, at the National Museum of Fine Arts, highlighting nine decades of Scouting history, service, and commitment to nation-building.

The exhibition launch coincided with the BSP’s 90th Charter Anniversary and the annual National Scouting Month, celebrated every October. As the organization begins its journey toward its centennial in 2036, this year’s theme, “Trail to Centenary 1936–2036: Discipline of Hope, Institution of Impact, Movement of Distinction,” underscores its enduring dedication to service and the development of responsible citizens.

The event was attended by BSP members and officials led by National President Atty. Emilio B. Aquino, Department of Budget and Management Secretary Hon. Kim Robert C. De Leon, former BSP Secretary General, and artist Nemesio “Nemiranda” Miranda Jr., whose works are among those featured in the exhibition.

In his remarks, Aquino described the collection as more than a showcase of historical artifacts, emphasizing that it represents the Scouts’ sacred commitment, sense of duty, and nine decades of dedicated service to the Filipino people.

Secretary De Leon, a former Scout who spearheaded the collaboration between the BSP and NMP two years ago, highlighted the importance of making the organization’s art collection accessible to the public. He explained that the exhibition provides an opportunity for these artworks, which had largely remained within the BSP headquarters, to be appreciated by a wider audience. He also announced and unveiled his personal collection of BSP stamps, which he intends to turn over to the NMP.

Meanwhile, NMP Director-General Jeremy Barns expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the exhibition, particularly the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. He highlighted the shared commitment of both institutions to preserving the country’s cultural heritage, noting that the collection offers visitors a meaningful connection to the history and values of Philippine Scouting.

NMP Deputy Director-General for Museums Arvin Manuel R. Villalon, himself a former Scout, also shared his appreciation for the collection through his curatorial notes, providing insights into the historical and artistic significance of the featured pieces. He encouraged the public to visit the exhibition and rediscover the memories and experiences associated with their Scouting years.

More than a presentation of memorabilia and artworks, “On My Honor” celebrates the legacy of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines and its continuing contribution to shaping generations of young Filipinos through discipline, leadership, citizenship, and service.

The NMP and BSP invite the public, especially the younger generation of Scouts, to visit the exhibition and deepen their appreciation of the rich history and enduring values of Philippine Scouting.

The exhibition is located at Gallery XIII, Third Floor, National Museum of Fine Arts, and will be open to the public once regular museum operations resume on November 3, 2026.
