Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. on Thursday played down expectations of a wide-ranging reorganization within the police hierarchy following his assumption of office.
Nartatez said leadership changes, if any, would be gradual and guided by institutional requirements, stressing that operational stability would be preserved across the organization.
He noted that existing crime prevention and public safety strategies would continue, with key units handling major criminal cases, counterterrorism, and internal security expected to maintain their current direction.
The PNP chief reminded officers that personnel movements are part of routine police administration driven by promotions, retirements, and service demands, adding that these adjustments should not disrupt day-to-day operations.
Calling for focus and discipline, Nartatez urged both senior officials and rank-and-file personnel to prioritize professionalism and public service, saying performance and integrity would remain the basis for assignments.
Nartatez took his oath before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Malacañang on January 28 and reiterated his commitment to visible and people-centered policing during the PNP Day observance.
He said the President’s guidance underscored the importance of civilian authority over law enforcement, pledging that the police force would uphold accountability, strengthen public trust, and deliver competent service nationwide.
