Amid torrential rains, widespread flooding, and the unforgiving onslaught of typhoons and monsoon weather, the MVP Group of Companies has risen to the challenge—not just by keeping the lights on, but by risking life and limb to ensure critical services reach the people who need them most.
“I’m proud of how quickly our people sprang into action,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, Chairman and CEO of the MVP Group. “They all have a deep understanding of our Group’s purpose, which is to make sure that Filipinos have access to essential services—particularly communication, power, transportation, and clean water—especially during times like these.”

From Meralco line crews restoring power in waist-deep floodwaters to emergency responders navigating submerged streets, the MVP Group’s commitment to service has gone far beyond the corporate call of duty. Their employees, many of whom are themselves affected by the floods, have become unsung heroes in a relentless effort to protect, serve, and uplift Filipino communities during this crisis.

Risking lives to restore light and hope
At the heart of these efforts is Meralco, whose frontline personnel worked tirelessly, often under extreme conditions, to bring back electricity to thousands of homes battered by heavy rains and flooding. Armed with high-bed trucks, motorized fiberglass boats, and unwavering courage, Meralco crews navigated dangerous terrain to restore power in flood-hit areas. Nearly all affected customers were reconnected by July 23—an extraordinary feat made possible by round-the-clock operations and an unyielding sense of duty.

Simultaneously, One Meralco Foundation rolled out relief operations, bringing food packs and supplies to hard-hit communities in Marikina City, Quezon City, Bulacan, and Cavite—offering not just electricity, but comfort and care in dark times.
Staying connected when it matters most
PLDT and Smart moved swiftly to keep people informed and connected. Free calls, texts, and mobile data were made available in severely affected areas, along with Libreng Tawag, WiFi, and Charging stations set up across the country. The Smart Cares Crisis Hotline was activated to help distressed individuals reconnect with loved ones or access emergency assistance.

This rapid digital response ensured that families could communicate vital information, seek help, and stay connected to hope amid chaos.

Water, roads, and relief—a multi-sector response
Maynilad, the Group’s water utility, wasted no time in delivering clean and potable water to evacuation centers and partner LGUs. Over 3,500 four-liter water packs and thousands more bottled water supplies were distributed, with teams on standby to ramp up relief as needed.
On the highways, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) activated a coordinated emergency response—deploying pumping stations on NLEX to reduce flood levels, mobilizing 24/7 patrol teams, redirecting traffic away from impassable roads, and handing out food and water to stranded motorists. Real-time updates via social media ensured that motorists remained informed and safe on the road.

A unified force for relief and recovery
The Alagang Kapatid Foundation Inc. (AKFI), together with other MVP Group foundations, continues to bring relief directly to affected families—distributing hot meals and aid in evacuation centers. In partnership with Maya Philippines, AKFI also launched a digital donation campaign through QR codes, enabling Filipinos from all walks of life to contribute to relief and recovery.
Purpose in action, compassion in motion
Through it all, each arm of the MVP Group is moving with urgency, compassion, and an unshakable sense of purpose—proving that their commitment to public service doesn’t stop at business. It extends into floodwaters, into darkened neighborhoods, and into every act of courage and care shown by their people.
Indeed, the men and women of the MVP Group didn’t wait for instructions. They moved swiftly and selflessly, driven by a deep understanding that their mission is to serve—especially when lives are on the line. In the face of crisis, they showed what true commitment looks like: stepping up, standing firm, and staying present. With unwavering resolve, the MVP Group continues to work side by side with local and national authorities to bring relief, restore services, and uplift the communities that need them most.
“As the situation evolves, so will the response,” said Pangilinan. “The MVP Group remains on the ground, focused on restoring access to vital services. We will continue working closely with national and local authorities to deliver support where it’s needed most.

As the weather continues to evolve, so does the MVP Group’s response. Tireless. Fearless. Relentlessly Filipino.
