MVP flags holiday scam surge, warns public against online impostors

Public advisory warning about online impostors during the holiday season, featuring a tweet from Manny V. Pangilinan clarifying his official social media accounts and advising caution against scammers.

Business leader Manny Pangilinan has issued a public warning against online scams, urging the public to remain vigilant as fraudsters step up their activities during the holiday season.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the Chairman, President and CEO of the Metro Pacific Group and Chairman of the MVP Group of Companies, clarified the limited platforms he uses online amid reports of impostors posing as him. “This is my only X account. My only IG account is mvp3838. And my FB is for friends only. I don’t engage using any other account,” he said, stressing that any other profiles claiming to represent him are fraudulent.

The businessman also cautioned that scammers tend to exploit the festive period, when people are more active online and often less guarded. “Scammers typically become more active during the Holidays, so please be wary,” Pangilinan added, reminding the public to double-check sources and avoid engaging with suspicious accounts or messages.

Cybersecurity experts have echoed similar warnings in recent weeks, noting a surge in impersonation scams targeting high-profile individuals, companies, and even charitable causes during Christmas and New Year. These schemes often involve fake social media accounts soliciting money, investments, or personal information.

Pangilinan’s reminder comes as part of broader calls for digital caution, especially as Filipinos ramp up online activity for holiday greetings, shopping, and donations. He closed his message on a positive note, wishing followers well while emphasizing the importance of staying alert online.

“Happy holidays to all,” Pangilinan said, pairing seasonal goodwill with a timely reminder that vigilance remains essential, even during the most festive time of the year.
