‘Mr. Christmas,’ top stars talk about the holidays

Philippine entertainment pillars Jose Mari Chan, Vice Ganda, and Kim Chiu, while collaborating for an e-commerce holiday campaign, offered a glimpse into their Christmas traditions, touching on themes of family legacy, personal gratitude, and even a bit of political satire.

Jose Mari Chan, widely known as the Philippines’ “Mr. Christmas,” underscored the holiday’s ultimate focus on familial bonding.

“We have five children and nine grandchildren,” Chan said, “We start shopping November pa lang, even October… So I encourage families out there to do the same—make your Christmas tree your family tree.” The singer expressed deep gratitude that his iconic holiday music has become an integral part of Filipino life for over 60 years.

For comedian and host Vice Ganda, the busy December schedule, especially with the annual Metro Manila Film Festival, forces him to prioritize gift-giving for his immediate family.

He drew laughs from the media by joking that his Christmas shopping budget, much like controversial government spending, is constantly amended due to “insertions” that cause it to gradually increase.

Actress Kim Chiu shared a desire for a serene holiday, stating that her Christmas decor changes yearly, inspired by what she is most grateful for. “This time, ang gusto kong Christmas tree is color white,” she shared. “Gusto ko talaga ay tahimik, payapa, and more peace and contentment.”

Chiu noted that she is a smart shopper who waits for major sales before checking out, though Vice Ganda affectionately teased his co-host for being a generous friend who nonetheless gives “expensive” gifts.

The trio recently partnered as brand ambassadors for an e-commerce platform’s holiday drive, marking the first time Vice Ganda and Chiu, who co-host ABS-CBN’s It’s Showtime, have collaborated with Chan for an endorsement.
