LAOAG CITY – Additional water wells are being installed in various areas of Ilocos Norte to help address water shortages and ensure a more reliable supply for local communities.
Ilocos Norte Water District General Manager John Teodoro confirmed this in an interview on Tuesday as he reported a drilling project is ongoing in Barangay 2, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte to augment existing water sources and improve water availability in the towns of Pasuquin and nearby Bacarra.
“A total of PHP2 million has been allotted for the construction of two water wells in the area,” said Teodoro.
As the province prepares for prolonged dry conditions and the possible impact of a strong El Niño, a bigger pipe will also be installed to replace an existing pipe to help solve water shortages in the towns of Badoc and Pinili.
“Bidding for the project is ongoing and the project is expected to be completed within this year,” he said.
According to Teodoro, the additional wells are expected to help provide alternative sources of water for households and other consumers affected by limited supply.
The move also underscores the importance of strengthening water infrastructure and developing sustainable water sources to meet the growing needs of communities in the province.
As water security becomes increasingly important amid changing climate conditions, the installation of additional wells is expected to help cushion the impact of water shortages and strengthen the province’s preparedness for prolonged dry spells, Teodoro said.
He, likewise, reiterated to consumers to always save water, a valuable resource for healthy living. (PNA)
