Pixar Animation Studios is developing a new film in the “Monsters, Inc.” series, marking the third major installment of the beloved franchise.
The project was revealed in a profile of Pete Docter, chief creative officer of Pixar, published by the Wall Street Journal. Details on the plot, release date, and director remain undisclosed as the film is still in early development.
The original “Monsters, Inc.” premiered in 2001, following James P. “Sulley” Sullivan and Mike Wazowski, employees at Monsters, Inc., where monsters generate energy by scaring children in the human-free city of Monstropolis.
A prequel, “Monsters University,” arrived in 2013, exploring Sulley and Mike’s college days and how they became friends.
In 2021, the franchise expanded with the spin-off series “Monsters at Work,” which followed characters navigating the transition from scream-based to laugh-based energy production.
The new film is expected to continue the adventures of Sulley and Mike, though Pixar has not confirmed whether other returning characters will appear.
Fans of the series are waiting for updates on casting, storyline, and production as Pixar moves forward with the third chapter of the franchise.
