Miss Philippines Earth 2025 turns 25: A battle of beauty, brains, and planet’s future

The spotlight is set, the runway is ready, and the stakes have never been higher — not just for crowns, but for the planet. This Sunday, August 10, The Cove at Okada Manila will host the silver anniversary edition of Miss Philippines Earth, transforming Parañaque City into a glittering arena where beauty meets a mission.

Dubbed “The Silver Lining” to mark its 25th year, the 2025 pageant isn’t just another coronation night. It’s a quarter-century celebration of women using their voices for environmental change — an advocacy that has survived trends, pandemics, and shifting pageant landscapes since Carousel Productions launched it in 2001.

Thirty-six candidates from across the Philippines and global Filipino communities will face off for five coveted crowns: Miss Philippines Earth, Miss Philippines-Air, Miss Philippines-Water, Miss Philippines-Fire, and Miss Philippines-Ecotourism. But only one will earn the right to wear the country’s greenest crown — and represent the Philippines at Miss Earth 2025.

Outgoing queen Irha Mel Alfeche, the lone Asian to crack the Top 12 at last year’s Miss Earth in Manila, will pass the torch to her successor — a moment many fans predict could be one of the most emotional in the pageant’s history.

This year’s lineup is stacked with pageant veterans, adding another layer of intensity to the competition. Among them: Antipolo’s Liz Mabao, who has already won Miss Scuba Philippines 2019 and graced the stages of Binibining Pilipinas and Mutya ng Pilipinas; Bacoor’s Joy Barcoma, a Miss World Philippines semifinalist; and La Paz’s Angel Rose Tambal, who impressed as a Miss Universe Philippines semifinalist.

The Miss Philippines Earth pageant has long called its candidates “beauties for a cause” — women who are expected to be as fierce in environmental debates as they are graceful in evening gowns. From beach cleanups to climate action campaigns, these contenders know that winning here means becoming a national advocate for sustainability, not just a face for magazine covers.

And while the glamour of coronation night will dazzle both live audiences and online viewers via Facebook and YouTube, the pressure will be just as bright — after all, the winner will aim to bring home the country’s fifth Miss Earth crown.

For those who miss the live spectacle, a delayed telecast will air on August 17 via Kapamilya Channel at 10 a.m., right before “ASAP.” But for pageant fans, environmental warriors, and lovers of spectacle, Sunday night promises more than just another beauty contest — it’s a green revolution in high heels.
