Minor quakes jolt Eastern Samar, Ilocos Sur

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck off the coast of San Policarpio in Eastern Samar early Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The tremor occurred at 3:22 a.m. and was tectonic in origin, with a depth of 17 kilometers.

On the same day, a separate earthquake measuring magnitude 4.1 rocked Ilocos Sur. This tremor hit at 3:47 a.m. and was centered 10 kilometers deep, west of Santa Catalina town.

While PHIVOLCS does not expect significant damage from either event, aftershocks are possible in the affected areas.
