Fire destroys truck drivers’ barracks in Pasig

A fire destroyed the barracks of truck drivers in Barangay Maybunga, Pasig City, early Friday morning.

The blaze, which started around 2:00 a.m., spread quickly as the barracks were made of lightweight materials and located within a truck parking compound.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) raised a first alarm and dispatched nine fire trucks along with volunteer groups. Firefighters contained the fire after about 40 minutes.

Six truck drivers and helpers, who were asleep at the time, managed to escape without injuries but lost all their belongings in the chaos.

The fire also damaged the front sections of three trucks parked near the barracks, along with a motorcycle that was completely destroyed. Another motorcycle was also scorched but quickly extinguished by firefighters.

The BFP is investigating the cause of the fire, focusing on possible electrical issues in the barracks’ ceiling.

“Based on ocular inspection ang pinaka-nakikita lang namin na parang pinagmulan po is sa electrical po doon sa may kisame,” said FO2 Fahad Pusaca of Pasig City Fire Station.

Authorities are still assessing the total damage.
