New Year’s Eve in Metro Manila passed with minimal incidents, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported Thursday.
Police Major Hazel Asilo said early deployment and visible police presence helped maintain order during celebrations across the capital.
A total of 147 incidents were recorded, mostly involving people startled or lightly injured by fireworks, with no serious casualties reported.
The NCRPO noted three cases of indiscriminate gunfire in the metro, including one involving a police officer.
A 28-year-old patrolman from the Maritime Group was apprehended after firing his service weapon in front of minors in Parañaque City.
All individuals involved in the firing incidents were arrested and are facing investigation, police said.
Authorities emphasized that overall, New Year’s celebrations were peaceful and called for continued public cooperation with safety regulations.
