Crime incidents in Metro Manila dropped by 46 percent in the first 15 days of May compared to the same period last year, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported on Friday.
According to NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin, only 155 crime incidents were recorded from May 1 to 15, a significant decrease from 287 incidents in 2023.
Despite being preoccupied with election-related duties, Aberin said NCRPO personnel maintained strong police operations, including checkpoints, patrols, and anti-crime campaigns. He credited the decline in crime to increased visibility, enhanced checkpoint operations, and intensified law enforcement efforts.
Rape cases saw the biggest drop at 76 percent, followed by physical injuries (50%), homicide (43%), murder (38%), robbery (39%), and theft (37%). Notably, motor vehicle theft cases fell by 100 percent, and motorcycle theft declined by 13 percent.
“These figures highlight the effectiveness of NCRPO’s anti-criminality operations and the strong coordination among its units across Metro Manila,” Aberin said.
The NCRPO also reported improved case-handling performance. Crime Clearance Efficiency (CCE) remained high at 90.97 percent, while Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE) improved from 67.60 percent to 76.13 percent.
“Our first and fundamental duty is to prevent the occurrence of crimes and we can only do that effectively and consistently if we have a police force that is seen, heard and felt by the community,” Aberin said.
