While many Filipinos took time to reflect and rest during Holy Week, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to public service by continuing to provide essential services—even in the dead of night.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) administrator Arnel Ignacio expressed deep gratitude to Meralco and its team, especially vice president and head of Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga, for their swift action and commitment during the Lenten season.

“Even though it was Holy Week, they were ready,” Ignacio said, highlighting the company’s dedication despite the holiday.

In a recent incident posted on Facebook, a fallen power line disrupted service in a neighborhood within Meralco’s service area, but Meralco crews responded immediately. Working diligently into the early hours of the morning, they managed to restore power by 2 a.m. on Easter Sunday. The community, touched by their efforts, poured out their appreciation online.

“Thank you so much, Sir Joe Zaldarriaga and admin Arnell Ignacio. The tree that fell onto the power lines has finally been cleared,” wrote Alma Robles Cruz, a resident of the affected area.

Her sentiments were echoed by Elmer Cruz, who added, “Thank you, neighbor, and your friend Mr. Joe Zaldarriaga. Sir, thank you very much.”

Joe Zaldarriaga responded with humility, saying, “Glad to assist admin Arnell Ignacio. Thank you as well, sir.”

MERALCO CONTINUES MAINTENANCE AND UPGRADING WORKS DURING HOLY WEEK. Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) continuously conducts maintenance activities across its franchise area to ensure a stable and continuous electricity service throughout the observance of Holy Week. Part of the proactive maintenance activities includes the erection of poles along New Manila in Quezon City.

This isn’t an isolated case. Meralco, under the leadership of Manuel V. Pangilinan, has continued its proactive maintenance operations across its franchise areas even during Holy Week. Among the many efforts underway is the installation of new power poles along New Manila in Quezon City—part of their broader mission to ensure reliable and uninterrupted electricity throughout the holidays.

Ignacio emphasized how the gesture went beyond just a power repair. “Yes, neighbor. It was already Holy Week, and they still worked through the night. They finished at 2 a.m.,” he remarked with sincere admiration.

While Holy Week is a time many spend in quiet reflection and rest, Meralco’s team chose service. Their sacrifice not only kept the lights on but also illuminated the spirit of public duty, earning the heartfelt thanks of the community and the country.
