MERALCO BAGS TOP HONOR AS ‘COMPANY OF THE YEAR’ AT THE 21ST PHILIPPINE QUILL AWARDS RADIATING BRILLIANCE. Meralco was hailed as “Company of the Year” at the 21st Philippine Quill Awards
after amassing 36 awards for demonstrating excellence in communications. The recent feat reaffirms Meralco’s position as an industry leader not just in energy, but in business communications as well.

The country’s largest power distributor just proved it can illuminate more than just homes and businesses. Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, emerged as the biggest winner at the 21st Philippine Quill Awards, sweeping 36 awards and clinching the coveted title of Company of the Year.

The distribution giant brought home 10 Awards of Excellence and 26 Awards of Merit for programs that showcased innovation in customer service, sustainability, public safety, digital transformation, and corporate social responsibility.

“This recognition underscores how powerful communication can be in fulfilling Meralco’s mission to keep the lights on. Being named Company of the Year inspires us to push boundaries in delivering clear, timely, and meaningful communication that not only strengthens trust but also uplifts the communities we serve,” said Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications.

Meralco’s win is historic: it is the only company to have earned the prestigious Company of the Year title five times, further cementing its reputation as a leader not just in energy, but in the art of communication.

From data-driven campaigns and creative storytelling on monthly power rates, to sustainability initiatives on renewable energy, urban farming, and diversity and inclusion, Meralco’s award-winning programs cut across industries and advocacies. Other recognized efforts include its Lifeline Rate Program for marginalized households, the Interruptible Load Program to help stabilize the grid, cybersecurity awareness campaigns, digital platforms like the Meralco Newsroom and Manong Joe channels, and public safety drives such as electrical safety advisories and the Anti-Urban Blight campaign.

Its corporate social responsibility projects—ranging from electrification in underserved areas to livelihood support platforms—also highlighted how Meralco uses communication to spark tangible change.

The Philippine Quill Awards, organized annually by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines, honors organizations that raise the bar in business communication. Now in its 21st year, the Quills remain the country’s gold standard for recognizing programs that achieve impact, inspire trust, and contribute to nation-building.

With its latest triumph, Meralco once again proves that true leadership means not only powering homes and businesses—but also empowering people through the power of communication.
