ROUND-THE-CLOCK RESTORATION WORKS. Meralco crews in Hagonoy, Bulacan are seen conducting
power restoration activities on Aug. 17, 2026 following heavy rains triggered by the enhanced southwest
monsoon (Habagat).
Meralco has restored electricity to nearly all customers affected by outages caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon, as its crews continue round-the-clock operations in flood-hit areas across its franchise network.
As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, only about 2,000 customers remained without power, a sharp drop from around 10,000 a day earlier. Most of the remaining affected customers are in Cavite and Quezon, where flooding has hampered restoration work.
“Our crews and field personnel are working overtime to address concerns and safely restore power in areas affected by the Habagat. Rest assured that we will not stop until service is restored to the last affected customer,” Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said.
The Manuel V. Pangilinan-led power distributor said its teams remain on heightened alert as rains are expected to persist throughout the week.
Beyond restoring electricity, Meralco has also stepped up relief operations for communities battered by heavy rains and flooding.
Through One Meralco Foundation, employee-volunteers have provided assistance to more than 1,400 families in Bulacan and Cavite, among the provinces heavily affected by the prolonged bad weather.
Meralco also reminded residents in flooded areas to take extra precautions against electrical hazards, particularly around downed power lines and facilities that may have been damaged or submerged.
Customers were advised to stay away from fallen electrical wires and equipment and to avoid using flood-damaged appliances.
Once floodwaters recede, residents should clean mud and debris from service equipment, including the main circuit breaker or fuse and its enclosure, while wearing rubber gloves and rubber-soled shoes.
Meralco also urged customers to have licensed electricians inspect electrical appliances and household wiring before restoring their use to prevent electrocution, fires and other accidents.
Customers may report outages and other concerns through Meralco’s official Facebook page and X account, @meralco. They may also send a text message to 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211, or call the Meralco Hotline at 16211.
