To support the increasing electricity demand in the capital, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, has energized a new substation in Sampaloc, Manila.

The newly commissioned Sampaloc Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation operates at 115 kilovolts (kV) to 34.5 kV and has an initial capacity of 83 megavolt amperes (MVA). This facility is expected to bolster power reliability for key institutions in the area, including the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center, the Dominican School Manila, and the University of Santo Tomas.

Meralco emphasized that the project is part of its continued investment in infrastructure upgrades to ensure a safe, stable, and dependable power supply for its customers across Metro Manila.
