Meralco Power Academy (MPA), the energy education arm of Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has partnered with the National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) to strengthen the workforce development of the country’s power industry.

Key executives from both organizations formalized the collaboration through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that outlines joint efforts to design and implement training programs supporting Continuing Professional Development (CPD) across the power sector. The initiative will feature short courses, capability-building activities, and talent pipeline programs aimed at advancing workforce expertise.

TransCo President Fortunato Leynes hailed the agreement as a milestone for the industry and expressed gratitude to MPA for its commitment to improving technical competencies. He also commended the Human Resource Management and Development Division (HRMDD), led by Resource Management Services Group Vice President Maria Theresa L. Laranang, for its ongoing efforts to build employee capabilities.

The partnership paves the way for structured knowledge-sharing on key energy topics, including power distribution and other areas critical to the country’s evolving energy landscape.

Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ronnie L. Aperocho, who also serves as MPA President, emphasized that the collaboration elevates the shared commitment of Meralco and TransCo to advance technical expertise and drive innovation in the Philippine power sector.

“This partnership blends TransCo’s unique national mission with MPA’s specialized role in training and development—a synergy that can make a tangible impact on energy reliability, resiliency, and human capital development,” Aperocho said.
