Meralco leads consumer choice drive, earns ERC recognition for power market leadership

Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has been recognized by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for leading Luzon in customer participation across government-backed consumer choice programs, underscoring its commitment to empowering electricity users and advancing a more competitive energy market.

The recognition highlights Meralco’s leadership in promoting initiatives that give consumers greater control over their electricity services by expanding access to supplier options and cleaner energy solutions.

Meralco Senior Vice President and Head of Regulatory Management Atty. Jose Ronald Valles received the award during a ceremony led by ERC Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer Atty. Francis Saturnino Juan. Department of Energy Secretary Sharon Garin also attended the awarding event.

Over the years, Meralco has actively championed key government programs designed to increase consumer choice and encourage competition in the power sector. These include the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA), the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), and the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP), all of which enable qualified customers to select their preferred electricity supplier based on their energy needs and sustainability goals.

By driving greater participation in these programs, Meralco continues to support the government’s vision of a more dynamic, customer-centric, and sustainable electricity industry, while helping consumers gain greater flexibility, competitive pricing options, and access to renewable energy sources.
