Just in time for the holiday season, One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the corporate social responsibility arm of Manuel V. Pangilinan–led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has brought safe and reliable electricity to 432 additional low-income households across Quezon City—an early Christmas gift that promises lasting impact well beyond the festivities.

The milestone was marked by a ceremonial switch-on led by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, Meralco Head of Customer Retail Services Charina P. Padua, and OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao. The event celebrated the expansion of OMF’s Household Electrification Program, which provides legal, dependable power connections to families previously living without direct access to electricity.

Mayor Belmonte underscored that electrification is more than infrastructure—it is a gateway to dignity, opportunity, and improved quality of life. She said access to electricity enables basic human rights and aligns with the city’s broader goal of uplifting communities, especially those most in need. By bringing light into homes, she noted, the program opens doors to better living conditions and brighter futures for thousands of residents.

The latest beneficiaries come from Barangays South Triangle and Escopa 3, as well as communities in 185 West Riverside, 24 F. Carlos, Sitio Militar, K-9 Compound, Greenland, and Tumana. Before the energization, many families depended on unsafe and informal arrangements such as submetering or tapping into neighbors’ lines—conditions that posed safety risks and financial strain.

Padua emphasized that the shift to legal and secure electricity connections represents a major step forward for these households. She said Meralco, together with OMF and the Quezon City government, remains committed to extending safe and dependable power to more underserved families, ensuring that access to electricity is both inclusive and sustainable.

The project was made possible through close collaboration among OMF, Meralco’s Kamuning–Roosevelt, Commonwealth–Balintawak, and Novaliches Business Centers, the Meralco Balintawak, Pasig, and Valenzuela Sectors, and the Quezon City local government.

To date, OMF has energized more than 80,000 low-income households nationwide, directly supporting the national government’s target of achieving 100 percent household electrification by 2028. These efforts have helped communities grow more productive, resilient, and secure, transforming everyday life for thousands of Filipinos.

Tarayao said the initiative reflects the enduring spirit of bayanihan, especially during the Christmas season. He stressed that by continuing to spread the light, OMF and Meralco are helping ensure that no family is left behind—or left in the dark—as the country moves closer to universal electrification.
