Easterlies, ‘amihan’ to bring rain across PH on Christmas Eve

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported on Wednesday that the northeast monsoon, or amihan, and the easterlies will continue to dictate weather patterns across the country on Christmas Eve.

According to the bureau’s 4 a.m. bulletin, the amihan is expected to bring cloudy skies and light rains to the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora. Meanwhile, the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the remainder of Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the same weather system.

In the eastern section of the country, the easterlies—warm winds blowing from the Pacific—are forecast to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to the Bicol Region and Quezon province.

Residents of Metro Manila and the rest of the archipelago can expect generally fair weather, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and the possibility of isolated rain showers or localized thunderstorms caused by the easterlies.

PAGASA also issued a maritime advisory, noting that Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, and the eastern portion of Southern Luzon will experience moderate to strong northeast winds.

These conditions are expected to result in moderate to rough sea waters.

In other parts of the country, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast, accompanied by slight to moderate coastal conditions.
