Meralco enjoins government communicators to promote energy awareness among consumers

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by business tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan, is strengthening its efforts to empower consumers by partnering with government communicators to promote better energy consumption practices.

Speaking at the 1st Quarter Conference of the Association of Information Officers in Metro Manila (AIMM), Meralco vice president and head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga emphasized the vital role that public information officers play in delivering timely and useful information to their communities.

“Meralco is committed to building stronger relationships with our customers through transparency and education,” said Zaldarriaga during the event held at Meralco’s Pasig City headquarters. “Our collaboration with government communicators ensures that important updates and energy-saving tips reach the people who need them most.”

Joining Zaldarriaga were Meralco customer care officer Rita Constantina Capalad, who explained the components of an electric bill and how understanding it can help customers better manage their usage, and PowerLab Manager John Pocholo Pobina, who shared practical energy-saving strategies.

Meralco views partnerships with organizations like AIMM as a key part of its consumer education initiatives. The conference also featured representatives from PhilHealth, the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP), and the Commission on Elections (Comelec), who shared their own insights with attendees from 17 local government units, national agencies, and other public offices.

In attendance were Meralco head of Advocacy Communications Management Michelle Caguioa, PIA-NCR regional director Emver P. Cortez, PRSP president Ma. Luisa P. Sebastian, DBM head of Media Affairs Richard Vargas, Pasig City Comelec officer Atty. Ronald O. Santiago, AIMM secretary Mary Ann Tanbio, and AIMM public relations officer Cesar Martin Jr.
