Strong competition is shaping up for Manila Electric Company’s latest power procurement, as 15 generation companies signaled interest in supplying its 200-megawatt baseload requirement tied to Renewable Portfolio Standards compliance.
The companies collectively offered a combined capacity of 725 MW, more than three times the volume Meralco is seeking under its Competitive Selection Process, underscoring robust market appetite for renewable-linked supply contracts with the country’s largest power distributor.
All interested firms have been invited to participate in the pre-bid conference scheduled for January 15, 2026. Those intending to formally compete must submit their bids by February 16, 2026, in line with the CSP timeline.
“The strong interest we received reflects confidence in Meralco’s procurement process,” said Lawrence S. Fernandez, chairman of Meralco’s Bids and Awards Committee for Power Supply Agreements. He added that the utility expects competitive and compliant offers that will help ensure reliable, sustainable, and least-cost electricity for customers.
Fernandez emphasized that Meralco, as a highly regulated utility, remains committed to maintaining transparency, fairness, and full regulatory compliance throughout the bidding process.
The resulting four-year Power Supply Agreement will cover Meralco’s 200-MW baseload requirement beginning January 26, 2026. The CSP is being conducted in accordance with the utility’s Department of Energy-approved Power Supply Procurement Plan and remains subject to approval by the Energy Regulatory Commission.
