The Manila Electric Company (Meralco), under the leadership of Manuel V. Pangilinan, has energized a newly upgraded power transformer at its Tayabas Delivery Point (DP) Substation. This move aims to bolster service reliability and meet the increasing power demand in Quezon Province and nearby areas in Laguna.
The upgrade triples the substation’s transformer capacity from 100 megavolt-amperes (MVA) to 300 MVA, enhancing the system’s ability to handle higher loads and providing N-1 contingency—a key factor in ensuring uninterrupted service in the event of equipment failure. This enhancement also improves the resilience of Meralco’s distribution network while increasing operational efficiency, with an estimated system loss reduction of 168,691.32 kilowatt-hours (kWh).
Now operating at 230 kilovolts (kV) to 115 kV, the upgraded Tayabas DP Substation ensures a stable and continuous power supply for major commercial and institutional customers. These include Tayabas Community Hospital Inc., Southern Luzon State University, ACE Medical Center Sariaya, Primark Town Center Tayabas, Pacific Mall Lucena, Quezon Medical Center, Lucena MMG General Hospital, the Quezon Provincial Governor’s Office, and SM City Lucena.
Beyond current demand, the upgrade also prepares the substation to accommodate new load applications, supporting continued economic growth across the region.
