The Meralco Bolts stepped into PBA Media Day on Friday with a fresh identity, unveiling their new jerseys and logo to mark their 15th year in the league.
The redesigned uniforms feature a striking black base, highlighted with blue trimmings and numbers, and orange lettering for player surnames. It’s a dramatic departure from the traditional blue kits worn in recent seasons and the retro orange alternates used on special occasions.
“It’s definitely a new look for us,” said Meralco star Chris Newsome. “We’ve never donned black before, and with the blue accents, it feels fresh. As a Blue Eagle myself, it fits perfectly. The little touch of orange ties everything together.”
The Bolts explained that the updated logo and uniforms embody their commitment to “recharge, reenergize, and recommit” to the team’s core values: hard work, togetherness, fighting spirit, sportsmanship, and excellence.
The jerseys will debut in the upcoming PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup and the East Asia Super League.
Newsome welcomed early comparisons from fans linking the new design to the Oklahoma City Thunder’s colorway. “I don’t mind that at all,” he said. “They just won the NBA championship last year—maybe that’s a sign of good things to come for us too.”
Meralco heads into the season with redemption on its mind after failing to defend its All-Filipino crown last year. The Bolts, who captured the Philippine Cup in Season 48, fell short in their repeat bid when they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by eventual champion San Miguel Beer.
