Manila mayor-elect Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Wednesday pledged to address and prioritize garbage problems and security concerns in the city once he returns to his former office at City Hall.
In an interview with Arnold Clavio on GMA Integrated News, the mayor-elect said, “‘Yung dalawang pangunahing hinihingi niyo sa akin, yung kalinisan, kaayusan, at kapanatagan ng pamumuhay sa Maynila, ‘yun po una kong tutugunan.”
Moreno said that Manila’s constituents have been sending him complaints about the amount and the problem of trash in the city.
He made this his priority and became one of his promises once he returned to the city hall.
“Ang basura, o sanidad for that matter, is an issue of all. Hindi ‘yan issue ng mahirap, hindi ‘yan issue ng middle class, hindi ‘yan issue ng mayaman. Lahat ng tao, dahil walang pinipili ang sakit dulot ng tambak ng basura pagdating sa kapakanan ng taumbayan,” he said.
As for security, Manila is included in the cities with Southeast Asia’s highest crime indexes.
Bringing up the incidents that include holdups and snatching, Moreno said that these crimes take place even in broad daylight, and said “one of the reasons bakit dumadaming ganyan kasi maraming gumagamit ngayon,” pertaining to illegal drugs.
“‘Yung bisyo, kailangan tugunan nila. Kaya sabi ko, mga tolongges, palit na kayo ng address or magbago na kayo,” he added.
Moreno said that he would finish his three terms as mayor and dismissed the possibility of running for president again.
“I already committed to the people of Manila. We’re gonna create a 10-year plan,” Moreno said.
“Actually, hindi naman masama tumakbo ng presidente. Sa mga manonood ngayon, may mga anak sila. Malamang nangangarap din silang maging presidente at makapaglingkod. It’s just that it’s destiny. The people have chosen already President Bongbong Marcos and we move on with our lives,” he added.
