German finswimming star Max Poschart has been elected to the International World Games Association (IWGA) Athlete Committee for the 2025–2029 term, capping off his golden run at the World Games in Chengdu, China.
Poschart, who powered to victory in the men’s 100m surface event and anchored Germany’s wins in the 4x50m and 4x100m relays, was among seven athletes chosen from a field of 20 nominees. Voting was held online from August 3 to 16, with accredited athletes selecting their representatives.
Joining him on the new committee are Xiaoxiao “Sunny” Lai of China (wushu), Spain’s Sandra Sánchez (karate), Hungary’s Petra Senánszky (underwater sports), Andrea Busa (kickboxing) and Yves Martial Tadissi (karate), both of Hungary, and Australia’s Catherine Phillips (flying disc).
In line with IWGA’s Constitution, President José Perurena may appoint up to two additional members by October to ensure diversity across gender, sport, and geography. Once finalized, the committee will elect a chairperson who will also sit on the IWGA Executive Committee through 2029.
“I extend my congratulations to the seven elected athletes and thank all the candidates who stood for election,” Perurena said. “The strong engagement of athletes shows how important this Committee is for the future of The World Games.”
IWGA leaders Jan Fransoo and John Liljelund also hailed the outcome, emphasizing that the committee will serve as “a vital bridge” between the association and athletes, shaping the direction of the Games in the years ahead.
