DMW releases nearly PHP1M aid to sick OFWs in Hong Kong

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has released almost PHP1 million in financial assistance to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Hong Kong who are suffering from serious illnesses.

In a social media post on Monday, DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said that the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Hong Kong distributed a total of PHP949,136.47 to 12 OFWs on Sunday under the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) Fund.

“These beneficiaries diagnosed with serious illnesses like breast and cervical cancer, lymphoma, and severe heart attack received PHP75,000 [each],” he said.

Cacdac emphasized that this initiative highlights the government’s commitment to providing “immediate and effective relief to OFWs in distress, ensuring their safety, security, and well-being.”

Aside from financial aid, the AKSYON Fund also covers legal services, medical and repatriation assistance, shipment of remains, and other emergency support.

The DMW advised OFWs in Hong Kong who need help to visit the MWO Hong Kong office located on the 29th floor of the United Centre in Admiralty.
