Mary Jane Veloso’s decade-long ordeal from Indonesian death row to absolute pardon is over with President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. granting her absolute pardon.
National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers (NUPL) chairperson and Veloso’s lead counsel Atty. Edre Olalia, they are expecting her release today as the remaining steps of her pardon are administrative and he doubts the process will extend beyond the weekend.
“Nakikita namin, napo-foresee namin na anytime, it could be today, it could be tomorrow. But, I doubt kung lalagpas pa iyan ng(ayong) weekend,” Olalia shared in an interview.
“I can foresee naman dadaan iyan sa administrative procedure. Aayusin iyong mga records, magkakaroon siya ng medical. Tapos, itsi-check kung mayroon mang pending case,” he added.
Veloso’s lawyer also disclosed that there is no longer any need for court clearance before Veloso can be released because Marcos granted her an absolute pardon.
“Kasi, wala namang kailangang clearance eh, absolute iyong pardon, galing pa sa pinakamataas na opisyal natin na si Pangulong Bongbong Marcos,” he pointed out.
