Maria Gigante, the reigning Universal Woman titleholder, has once again captivated pageant fans — not with a crown, but with a walk.
A reel posted by Gigante on June 23 showed her executing a crisp pasarela (runway walk) in a Quezon City studio, as the 2025 Miss Grand International Philippines candidates looked on. While her form was flawless, her caption quickly clarified things: “Relax. I was just demonstrating 😉.”
But was it just a demonstration? Pageant circles buzzed with speculation — is the 30-year-old beauty queen gearing up for a surprise comeback?
Though Gigante shut down the rumors on the surface, the reel seemed to carry more weight than a simple tutorial. In a reflective caption, she spoke about her journey — not just in heels, but through heartbreak, persistence, and resilience.
“This is where it all began,” Gigante wrote, acknowledging the role of the late pageant mentors Jonas Borces, Dave Daval, and Jay Unchuan, whose names have become icons in Philippine pageantry. “To every Q&A coach, every walking coach who showed me grace… we dreamed this together.”
Her post wasn’t just a throwback — it was a tribute, a love letter to a grueling decade-long journey marked by struggle and triumph. From her early days competing in Cebu, to becoming a Binibining Pilipinas 2016 candidate and later Binibining Cebu Charity 2017, Gigante’s path has been nothing short of relentless.
She tried her luck again at Miss World Philippines in 2022, making it to the Top 11, before finally getting her international break when she was appointed to represent the Philippines in the Universal Woman pageant — a crown she brought home in a historic win.
“I trained, I cried, I bled. I tried and tried again, until I got my crown. All the while, I was in Jojo Bragais shoes,” she added, paying homage to the late designer whose heels have become a rite of passage for many queens.
While she was originally scheduled to pass on her crown in India this month, tensions in the region forced Universal Woman organizers to postpone the coronation following recent missile strikes between India and Pakistan in the Kashmir area.
Still, for now, Maria Gigante isn’t announcing a comeback — but her presence, legacy, and message to young candidates remain loud and clear: grace, grit, and gratitude never go out of style.
