Malacañang brushed aside claims that administration insiders were behind the latest complaints targeting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, saying it had no clue where Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste was getting his information.

Palace press officer Claire Castro said the government was not involved in any supposed moves against Recto and denied knowledge of any internal effort to undermine the Cabinet official.

She said Leviste’s claim that several figures within the administration were behind the attacks had no clear basis, stressing they were unaware of what he was referring to.

Leviste earlier told Recto to look within his own ranks for critics, after the latter hinted that opposition figures or even the congressman himself could be linked to the filing of new complaints.

The complaint, filed by physician Tony Leachon, questioned Recto’s decision to transfer Php 60 billion from the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. to the national treasury.

Leachon also flagged the movement of Php 107 billion from the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp., warning it could weaken financial protections and dent public trust.

Recto shrugged off the allegations, saying the case had no legal footing and describing it as harassment.

He also floated the possibility that multiple parties could be involved, mentioning the opposition and Leviste, but stopped short of presenting proof.
