Marcos visits Albay, pledges aid for schools

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday visited typhoon-stricken areas in Albay to assure residents of ongoing government support following Super Typhoon Uwan.

He inspected Cararayan-Naga Elementary School (CNES), where students attended classes on a shifting schedule. Seven classrooms were heavily damaged, valued at P3.5 million, while eight others suffered minor damage worth P392,000, according to DepEd Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Bernie Despabiladero. Three WASH facilities, 200 learning resources, and 50 desks were also destroyed.

“The visit underscores the President’s commitment to prioritizing education, especially in times of crisis,” Despabiladero said.

Immediate relief was provided, including school supplies and internet connectivity. Two Starlink satellite units were donated—one to CNES and another to Tiwi Central School—to restore communication and learning support. DepEd distributed learning materials and learner kits, while DPWH and local volunteers conducted clearing operations. Students also received psychological first aid.

President Marcos later convened a briefing with Cabinet members and local officials to assess damages and ensure coordinated relief and rehabilitation efforts continue.
