President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. continued to express confidence in the Armed Forces of the Philippines despite the National Bureau of Investigation’s disclosure that some active uniformed personnel were among the persons of interest in an alleged plot against him.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the President maintained full trust in the military while stressing that any personnel found to have violated their duties should be identified and held accountable.
She said authorities should determine whether any individual had acted outside the law or placed loyalty to a particular person above their sworn responsibilities.
Castro also said Marcos remained confident in those tasked with his security and that no loyalty check was currently being conducted within the Armed Forces.
She added that any internal assessment involving military personnel would be left to the security sector and the leadership of the armed forces.
During the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, NBI Director Melvin Matibag testified that investigators had narrowed their list of persons of interest to fewer than 20 individuals, including active members of the uniformed service and one member of the Vice President’s security detail.
Matibag also told the impeachment court that investigators had begun reaching out to the families of some of the identified persons as part of the ongoing investigation.
The probe stemmed from Duterte’s November 2024 public statement in which she said she had instructed someone to kill Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez if she herself were killed.
