President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Sunday assured the public that his health is improving following a recent diagnosis of diverticulitis, stating that medical assessments indicate his condition is “nothing serious.”
In a video blog released Sunday afternoon, the President confirmed he is currently focused on regaining his strength after being placed on a restricted liquid diet during his recovery.
“I am recovering. The doctors gave a positive assessment—nothing serious. I just need to regain my strength,” Marcos said in Filipino.
He added lightheartedly that the medical restricted diet resulted in weight loss, joking that it felt like he had been on a deliberate diet.
The update follows a disclosure from Malacañang last month that the President was hospitalized on Jan. 21 for medical observation.
Doctors diagnosed him with diverticulitis, an inflammation of pouches in the colon. Officials emphasized at the time that the condition was not life-threatening.
While the President skipped several scheduled public engagements outside of Malacañang over the past week on medical advice, Palace officials clarified that he has remained active in his role.
Marcos has continued to attend meetings and process official paperwork from within the Palace.
The President’s personal update aims to dispel unverified reports regarding the severity of his illness.
Palace officials maintained that Marcos remains fully capable of performing his executive duties as he completes his recovery.
