President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday marked Labor Day by reaffirming the government’s pledge to expand job opportunities for Filipinos amid continuing economic pressures.
He said the Filipino workforce remained central to national development, saying workers “drive the Philippines forward and keep the world in motion” despite rapid changes in technology and industry.
Marcos also paid tribute to workers across sectors, describing them as the foundation of the country’s progress as they perform their duties “whether at sunrise, beneath the noonday heat, or in the long hours when the nation sleeps.”
He said that through workers’ effort and sacrifice, families are able to maintain stability while the country draws strength from their contribution, adding that they remain “the backbone of our Republic.”
The President also called for stronger cooperation across society to build a system where hard work is properly rewarded and opportunities are more accessible to ordinary families.
He urged efforts to promote fair labor conditions, protect livelihoods, and ensure that economic gains are felt more broadly amid shifting global and domestic challenges.
Marcos said his administration remained committed to creating more and better jobs, strengthening worker protection, and expanding pathways for Filipinos to improve their lives.
He added that the government would continue to uphold the dignity of workers as the country navigates changing economic conditions.
