President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has renewed his full backing for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), praising its steadfast commitment to protecting communities and keeping peace in some of the country’s most sensitive security zones.
The President flew to Zamboanga City on Friday to visit the Western Mindanao Command (WESMINCOM), where commanders briefed him on recent developments in the Zamboanga Peninsula and adjoining areas. The region remains a priority security corridor due to the persistent presence of criminal and extremist groups.
Footage of the meeting, released by Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM), showed Marcos attentively listening to updates before commending the command’s latest operational gains. He assured officers that the administration will continue investing in equipment, welfare programs, and strategic policy support to strengthen the AFP’s readiness.
Marcos stressed that enhanced coordination among security agencies remains central to sustaining stability in Western Mindanao. He emphasized that boosting the morale of soldiers is equally critical, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving their quality of life and ensuring they remain fully equipped for modern security challenges.
According to the Presidential Communications Office, the President also personally conveyed his gratitude to the troops for their “continued and loyal service,” saying the nation relies heavily on their dedication.
Later that evening, Marcos hosted a traditional dinner at Malacañan Palace for the AFP Council of Sergeants Major. In his remarks, he urged the military leadership to stay united and focused on its constitutional mandate, warning that efforts to divide the institution through misinformation and disinformation must not succeed.
He called on the troops to remain resolute, saying their cohesion and professionalism are vital to keeping the country safe in an increasingly complex security landscape.
