President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited Barangay Sta. Fe on Wednesday to inspect damage caused by flooding and lahar and check on residents affected by the disaster.
Marcos proceeded to Zambales after inspecting damaged areas in Tarlac, continuing a series of visits to communities hit by recent severe weather.
A major concern in Barangay Sta. Fe was the condition of Sta. Fe National High School, where 12 of 26 classrooms were heavily damaged by floodwaters and lahar.
The President directed that repairs to the school facilities be prioritized so that 132 students could safely return to classes.
Government assistance was also extended to affected families in the community as recovery efforts continued.
Authorities distributed food packs and hygiene kits to residents displaced or affected by the flooding and lahar.
Around 1,000 families were also set to receive Php 10,000 each in cash assistance under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.
The government said rehabilitation measures would continue in Barangay Sta. Fe, with attention focused on restoring basic services, repairing damaged facilities and helping families recover from the disaster.
