President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday led the national launch of the School-Based Feeding Program and Milk Feeding Activity in Bulacan to help address undernutrition among learners.
The kickoff was held at Pulilan Central School as the government expanded its school nutrition intervention for School Year 2026–2027.
Under the program, all Kindergarten and Grade 1 learners will be covered by universal feeding.
The assistance will also extend to learners from Grades 2 to 6 who are classified as wasted or severely wasted, as well as other qualified beneficiaries under the Department of Education’s nutrition programs.
Marcos said the expanded coverage would ensure that young learners receive meals in school instead of limiting assistance only to those identified as undernourished.
He said proper nutrition is important in helping children attend classes, learn better and avoid illnesses.
Marcos also said food products for the feeding program and other government initiatives would be sourced from local suppliers as much as possible to support local businesses and producers.
The School-Based Feeding Program is DepEd’s flagship nutrition intervention under Republic Act No. 11037, or the Masustansyang Pagkain para sa Batang Pilipino Act.
