Amidst the deepening investigation of the alleged irregularities in the government’s flood control projects, Senator Erwin Tulfo has announced a challenge to critics who insist his involvement in the issue that has implicated several high-ranking officials, including a former senator.
Speaking at a media form held at the popular Harbor View restaurant at the South Gate of Rizal Park, the former veteran broadcaster reiterated that he does not have anything to do with funds allocated for flood control and if this proven to the contrary by anyone, he is ready to resign from his position as member of the Senate.
“Pag may nakita ho kayong pangalan ko sa DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) o sa listahan ni Cabral (the late undersecretary Maria Catalina ‘Cathy’ Cabral) . . . na may flood control, I will resign. I will conduct a press conference and say ‘I resign’,” according to the chair of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.
Tulfo asserted that even when he was still a congressman until now, he did not receive any allocation for flood control projects or even initiatives for farm-to-market roads.
“Wala po ni singko akong nakuha simula na maging congressman ako hanggang ngayon. Wala po akong natanggap na pondo para sa flood control o farm-to-market road,” he stressed while challenging any official, contractor or employee of the DPWH to present proof or documents that would implicate him to the anomalies.
“Kung mayroon po kayong makitang papel . . . o may magturo sa akin na district engineer, regional director o contractor, dalhin ninyo po at magre-resign po ako,’’ he strongly declared.
At the same time, the senator avowed that the flood control investigations will not be delayed or stopped in spite the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Vice President ‘Inday’ Sara Duterte-Carpio.
“Wala pong katotohanan na kaya naging impeachment trial tayo para matakpan ang flood control. Hindi po. Tuluy-tuloy po ang accountability,” he insisted.
He disclosed that they will be putting up a subcommittee that will exclusively conduct the investigations in order to speed up the process and inquiry on government-funded projects. .
“Paiiralin din ang mas mahigpit na proseso sa pagtanggap ng mga testigo upang matiyak ang kredibilidad ng mga ebidensyang ihaharap sa Senado,” he stated.
