President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. inaugurated the Alfonso Lista Pump Irrigation System (ALPIS) in Barangay Sto. Domingo, Alfonso Lista, Ifugao, on October 26, 2026, as part of government preparations for the possible effects of Super El Niño and prolonged drought.
The project aims to strengthen irrigation infrastructure and ensure a more reliable water supply for agricultural production amid concerns over worsening dry conditions.
During the inauguration, Marcos emphasized the importance of dependable irrigation systems in protecting farmers’ livelihoods, improving agricultural productivity, and maintaining food security.
The President underscored the need to prepare farming communities for potential water shortages that could affect crop production during extended periods of drought.
The ALPIS project is expected to help farmers maintain access to irrigation water, reducing their vulnerability to the effects of extreme weather conditions.
The initiative forms part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen agricultural resilience and support food production as the country prepares for the possible impact of Super El Niño.
Through improved irrigation facilities, the government aims to help farming communities sustain agricultural activities and protect their sources of income despite the threat of water scarcity.
