TACLOBAN CITY – Officials from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), and other government agencies led the groundbreaking and unveiling of 10 infrastructure projects worth Php 262 million at the NMP complex in Barangay Cabalawan, Tacloban City, on Tuesday, October 27.

The projects, located within the institution’s 17-hectare complex, aim to improve maritime training facilities and strengthen support services for Filipino seafarers.

Among the planned facilities are dormitories, a training pool, a firefighting training area, a network road, and parking spaces.

The infrastructure improvements are expected to enhance the institution’s capacity to provide practical maritime training and accommodate trainees undergoing specialized courses.

The NMP is the country’s only government-owned and operated maritime training and research institution and operates as an attached agency of the DMW.

It offers specialization, safety, and upgrading courses designed to strengthen the skills and professional competencies of Filipino seafarers.

The Php 262-million investment is expected to support the continued development of maritime education and training facilities, helping prepare Filipino maritime workers for the demands of the shipping industry.

The projects also form part of efforts to improve government training infrastructure and expand opportunities for seafarers seeking professional development.
