President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the government aimed to help more than 200,000 qualified high school students complete their education through the Bagong Pilipinas Presidential Scholars Program.
Marcos made the statement Thursday during an orientation for 105 Presidential Scholars from 21 barangays held at Pinaglabanan Elementary School in San Juan City.
Most of the students covered by the program were in their third and fourth years of high school.
The President said the scholarship initiative would be expanded across the country to reach more learners who needed support to stay in school.
He said investing in young people was important because they would eventually become leaders in government, business, education, and other fields.
Marcos also urged the scholars to value their studies, describing education as a lasting form of wealth that would remain with them throughout their lives.
He said quality education could improve not only the future of individual learners but also the welfare of their families, communities, and the country.
Under the program, each participating barangay receives Php 100,000 through the Socio-Civic Projects Fund and may support up to five scholars, with each beneficiary getting Php 20,000 in one-time educational assistance.
