Pakistan called on the United States and Iran to observe the ceasefire after renewed clashes raised fresh concerns over stability in the Middle East.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Thursday in Islamabad that Pakistan remained deeply concerned over the latest escalation in the region.
He said the situation required more space for diplomacy and dialogue instead of further military confrontation.
Pakistan helped broker an April 8 ceasefire after the conflict that began on Feb. 28 following US and Israeli military action against Iran.
Islamabad has since played a mediating role between the parties and hosted high-level talks between US and Iranian officials on April 11 and 12.
The appeal came after Washington and Tehran again exchanged air and missile strikes this week.
Andrabi said Pakistan continued to support the peaceful settlement of unresolved issues through negotiation and in line with the rights and responsibilities of the parties involved.
He said Pakistan’s mediation efforts were aimed at ending hostilities, saving lives, and giving diplomacy a chance to move the process forward.
