President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. spent the past week on an aggressive nationwide push to bring government services directly to communities, as his administration moves to cushion the impact of global uncertainties while accelerating local development.

Amid rising concerns tied to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, the President ramped up efforts to secure food supply, stabilize energy resources, and expand job opportunities—anchoring his approach on stronger coordination with local governments and faster delivery of aid.

From Luzon to Mindanao, Marcos led a series of on-ground initiatives aimed at delivering immediate relief while strengthening long-term resilience.

At the start of the week, he oversaw the distribution of subsidized rice to 500 beneficiaries from vulnerable sectors, including farmers, persons with disabilities, and solo parents. The program, funded through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF), also provided villages with ₱200,000 each to support community-level assistance efforts. Similar aid initiatives were rolled out in Tacloban City, Samar, and later in General Santos City and Sarangani province.

Beyond direct aid, the administration is pushing structural measures to address economic pressures. The President convened the Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food and Transport (UPLIFT) Committee, where proposals included the urgent passage of a bill aimed at ensuring fuel and commodity stability. A dedicated UPLIFT microsite was also launched to improve transparency and public access to government programs.

Labor Day marked another key highlight, with Marcos leading simultaneous nationwide job fairs in General Santos City. The events, designed as one-stop service hubs, brought together employment facilitation, skills training, and healthcare services in a single venue. Government data showed that since mid-2022, more than 6,600 job fairs have been conducted, resulting in at least 1.5 million hires—over 250,000 of them on the spot.

In the agriculture sector, the President inaugurated the Hibulangan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project in Leyte, a major infrastructure initiative expected to benefit over 1,800 farmers. The project is projected to boost crop yields by more than 57 percent, while opening doors for eco-tourism and renewable energy opportunities.

Marcos also underscored innovation and governance reforms, pledging stronger support for Filipino inventors during the National Invention Convention and Exhibits Awards. He likewise convened national and regional peace and order councils to align strategies on public safety and community resilience, emphasizing the critical role of local governments in identifying and solving grassroots issues.

On the international front, the administration continued to strengthen diplomatic ties. Marcos met with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to discuss energy cooperation under the Asia Zero Emission Community framework, highlighting the Philippines’ commitment to renewable energy transition amid global volatility.

He also engaged European diplomats over the case of fugitive former lawmaker Zaldy Co, signaling the government’s intent to address legal and diplomatic concerns surrounding the issue.

Taken together, the President’s week-long engagements reflect a dual-track strategy: delivering immediate assistance to Filipinos while laying the groundwork for sustained economic growth and stability in an increasingly uncertain global landscape.
