Manila suspends classes due to high heat index

Manila’s city government on Tuesday announced the suspension of in-person classes at all levels, including both public and private schools, due to a high heat index.

Mayor Honey Lacuna made the announcement in a social media post late Monday, following a recommendation from the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

“Schools are advised to shift to any alternative learning modality,” she wrote.

The mayor advised everyone to take caution as Manila’s heat index is expected to peak at 43 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

Other areas have also announced class suspensions due to soaring heat indices.

In Quezon City, face-to-face classes have been suspended for kindergarten through senior high school in public schools.

Bacoor City in Cavite has suspended in-person classes for preschool through Grade 12 in both public and private schools.

Similarly, Abucay, Orani, Samal, and Hermosa in Bataan have suspended face-to-face classes at all levels in both public and private schools.
