The City Government of Manila confirmed today that an overwhelming majority of barangay chairpersons voted to replace the leadership of the Liga ng mga Barangay (LNB), resulting in the ouster of then-president Leilani Lacuna.
According to a statement released by the Local Government Unit (LGU), 844 out of the city’s 896 barangay chairpersons voted in favor of electing a new set of LNB officers. This massive mandate effectively unseated Lacuna from her post as LNB Manila President.
The LGU issued the clarification following Lacuna’s filing of graft and usurpation of authority complaints against then-Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, Vice Mayor Chi Atienza, and other city officials.
Lacuna alleged that city officials used intimidation and various forms of harassment to pressure barangay captains into removing her.
In response to the accusations, the City Government strongly denied the claims, calling the allegation that city officials were intimidated into the vote “an insult to their intelligence.” The LGU maintained that the result reflects the will of the barangay leaders, adding that “mere allegations are not synonymous with truth.”
