Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested a man for impersonating an NBI officer, reports said. According to the complainant, the suspect claimed he could facilitate personnel recruitment into the NBI in exchange for money.
His victim, who shall be referred to as “Mac,” said that the man offered his services to Mac’s brother, who recently passed the National Police Commission (Napolcom) exam.
“Marami siyang binabanggit na mga pangalan na may impluwensiya. Kaya napalagay ‘yung loob at nangako siyang tutulungan,” Mac said.
“And then, humingi siya ng pera sa bawat hakbang na maaaring mangyari sa kapatid ko.”
Mac’s spouse was promised that she would be placed in the Civil Service Commission until she was also recruited to work under the NBI.
“Marami siyang kwento na talaga naman bibilib ka kasi talagang matamis ‘yung dila niya. Kaya talaga pong napaniwala ako,” said Mac.
The suspect received around P250,000 from the Mac family to ‘process’ their papers.
However, four months passed without any progress and a single promise fulfilled.
“Nanlamig ako kasi ‘yung pangarap para sa pamilya ko, nakasalalay dun sa pinoproseso. E ‘yun pala ay modus lang po talaga,” he shared.
The victims reported the incident to the NBI-Technical Intelligence Division (NBI-TID), where it was confirmed that the suspect was not a legitimate member of the agency.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, and authorities confiscated fake NBI IDs, a badge, mission orders, and calling cards allegedly used in the scam.
“So, ito’y lahat part ng scheme niya, to lure victims para ma-swindle niya itong mga tao,” ayon kay Allein Rey Delfin, special investigator III ng NBI-TID.
“And one of the documents na na-obtain namin during the operation is meron pang scholarship na document for flight attendants,” dagdag niya.
The suspect, however, denied all allegations and claimed that he was merely used in the scheme.
“Wala akong ginagawang mali, sir. Kumbaga, tiwala lang po talaga ako na totoo ‘yung sinasabi ng kausap ko,” depensa niya.
The suspect is now facing charges of estafa, usurpation of authority, and falsification of public documents.
