A man was arrested after making an alleged bomb joke that caused a nearly three-hour delay of a flight bound for General Santos from Manila on Wednesday.
According to Police Aviation Security Group chief Col. Ceasar Lumiwes, the passenger reportedly warned the Cebu Pacific flight crew to be cautious while handling his bag, saying, “Baka po may sumabog.”
This prompted a thorough and time-consuming search of the aircraft and all luggage, but no explosives were found.
The passenger is set to face charges for violating the Anti-Bomb Joke Law.
Manila International Airport Authority general manager Eric Ines urged passengers to avoid making any references to explosives while at the airport, warning that such remarks can cause significant inconvenience and delays for everyone.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe and efficient travel environment by refraining from comments that could raise security concerns.
“Iwasan po nagin ang pagbibiro ng may bomba ang bagahe dahil ito po ay bawal,” Ines said.
