A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck the province of Sultan Kudarat early Tuesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The tectonic tremor occurred at 3:00 a.m., with its epicenter located 44 kilometers southwest of the municipality of Kalamansig.
Phivolcs noted the earthquake was shallow, with a depth of only two kilometers.
Various intensities were felt across neighboring regions:
* Intensity III: General Santos City; Kiamba and Maitum in Sarangani; and the municipalities of Santo Niño, T’boli, Lake Sebu, Norala, and Tupi in South Cotabato.
* Intensity II: Tampakan and Banga in South Cotabato; and Glan, Alabel, Malungon, and Maasim in Sarangani.
Instrumental intensities—measured by ground acceleration meters—reached Intensity IV in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat, while Intensity I was recorded as far as Zamboanga City and Davao Occidental.
State seismologists stated that while aftershocks are likely to occur, the earthquake is not expected to cause any significant structural damage.
No immediate casualties or infrastructure failures have been reported following the event.
