Philippine Tennis Academy (PTA) standouts Arriana Reign Maglana and Louraine Jallorina dominated their divisions over the weekend at the Juntaphil Cup held at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Maglana, a 13-year-old from Maragusan, Davao de Oro, captured the girls’ Under-14 singles title with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Vania Parawan. She later partnered with Jallorina to clinch the Under-18 doubles crown, overpowering Maria Isabel Ataiza and Avegail Joy Ansay, 6-1, 6-2.

“I’m happy and fulfilled to win both singles and doubles. I really worked hard for this, knowing the competition was tough. I’m proud to have represented my team well and justified the trust of my coaches. All the training and sacrifices were worth it,” said Maglana, a Grade 8 student at Seibo College Foundation, Inc., in an interview on Monday. “This is just the beginning of our real tennis journey. I’m motivated to work even harder.”

Earlier this year, Maglana also captured the U14 doubles title at the Masters Top 8 tournament alongside Cyrel Mae Sanchez. The duo defeated Maristella Torrecampo and Izabelle Camcam (8-4), Mitch Cruspero and Ataiza (7-1), and Ayl Gonzaga and Jasmine Sardona (8-4).

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Jallorina from Iloilo City showcased her skill and composure by winning the U16 singles title with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Chiara Mae Bate.

“I’m very grateful for the results in both singles and doubles. I really prepared for this tournament, and seeing the results makes all the hard work worthwhile,” said Jallorina, a Grade 9 student at De La Salle Santiago Zobel in Alabang. “In singles, staying focused was key, while in doubles, communication with my partner was crucial. Winning both is a big milestone, and it pushes me to work even harder. I also thank God for His guidance and the PTA for their continuous support.”

Jallorina previously won a bronze medal in mixed doubles at the 2023 Batang Pinoy National Championships in Manila.

PTA head coach Bobie Angelo, a former Davis Cup player and SEA Games medalist, expressed optimism about the future of both athletes.

“These girls train extremely hard, and their success at the Juntaphil Cup proves they have the potential to go even further. Their work ethic and hunger for improvement are very evident,” said Angelo, currently in Thailand accompanying Tennielle Madis at the J300 ITF Nonthaburi tournament.

Founded by sports patron Romy Chan, the Philippine Tennis Academy has produced top talents, including 2023 Metro Manila Open champion Arthur Craig Pantino and 2017 PCA Open champion John Bryan Otico.

Other winners at the Juntaphil Cup included Jan Caleb Villeno (boys U12), Marcus Lorenzo (boys U14), Anirudh Palanisamy (boys U16), Al-Zayeed Baid (boys U18), Evan Bacalso (boys U21), Ella Mae Paglaluan (girls U12), and Marielle Alexi Jarata (girls U18).
