Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro on Thursday named a mix of returning and potential new members who may form part of the prosecution panel in the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
In a radio interview, Luistro mentioned several lawmakers from the previous impeachment effort, including Manila Rep. Joel Chua, San Juan Rep. Ysabel Maria Zamora, Bukidnon Rep. Keith Flores, and 1-Rider party-list Rep. Ramon Rodrigo Gutierrez.
She also cited other possible additions such as Mamamayang Liberal party-list Rep. Leila de Lima, Akbayan party-list Rep. Chel Diokno, Bicol Saro party-list Rep. Terry Ridon, and Cagayan de Oro Rep. Lordan Suan.
Luistro said the House has many lawyers who could take on the role, noting that readiness and willingness would likely determine who would eventually serve as prosecutors.
The lawmaker clarified that membership in the prosecution team is not automatic, explaining that the plenary must elect those who will take on the role.
She added that she remained focused on completing the committee’s work, including finalizing the report and presenting the articles of impeachment before the full House.
Luistro said the chamber still needed to approve the report and secure enough votes to elevate the case to the Senate, where it would be tried.
The House committee on justice earlier found probable cause to impeach Duterte after hearings on alleged fund misuse, unexplained wealth, and threats against President Ferdinand Marcos, First Lady Liza Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
